Welcome
to my website.
From
March of 2004 through to May 30, 2008, I was appointed Executive Director of Beaufort Performing
Arts, Inc., at University of South Carolina Beaufort in Beaufort, SC. This newly created position and entity was established by the mayor's task force in 2003 to entertain, educate, and enlighten residents, students and visitors as well as to encourage cultrual and economic development within the City and County of Beaufort by using the performing arts center at University of South Carolina Beaufort.
Building a theatre up from the ground up.
BPA was happy to announce PJ & Play for children.
The program was funded in part by KingHorn Insurance of Beaufort and LOWCOUNTRY
National Bank consisted of a series of 4 children shows for ages 3 to
12 years old. During the day the performances were sold to local schools.
The premise in the evening is that parents bring their children in their
pajamas and then after the show everyone receives milk and cookies,
which was donated and sponsored. All performances have been sold out!
The
Beaufort Performing Arts, Inc. Musical Theatre Summer Camp for young
adults ages 10-16 was very successful with their production of ANNIE
for the summer of 2004. In 2005 we produced JOSEPH
AND THE AMAZING TECHICOLOR DREAMCOAT, 2006 KING AND I and in my final summer programs for children BPA produced MUSIC MAN and THE MIRACLE WORKER.
Grants received where from the City of Beaufort Accomodations Tax, The City of Beaufort
Hospitality Tax, The County of Beaufort Accomondations Tax, Southern
Arts Federation, South Carolina Arts Commission, the National Endowment
for the Arts, The Beaufort Fund and the Donnelly Foundation among a few. We doubled our patronships and sponorships. Capitol improvements
to the Performing Arts Center were made and have been improved through
the grants and matching monies by BPA.
December
of 2003 found me directing and choreographing OLIVER for Charleston
Stage at the historical Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC to much
critical acclaim, (see reviews.) The production ran from December 10
through to the 20th.
CABARET
at the Barn Theatre opened August 26 and played through to September
7th. It met with very favorable reviews. Please check reviews for the
critical acknowledgements that CABARET has received.
March
and April 2003 found me in Charleston, South Carolina in rehearsal and
production for GERSHWIN AT FOLLY which opened April 8th and played
through April 26th at the Charleston Stage, Dock Street Theatre, Charleston,
South Carolina. It's a new musical using Gershwin's original music but
written and directed by Julian Wiles and musically directed by Christopher
Donison. I choreographed the production.
The
production met with astounding praise of both critical and public acknowledgement.
Opening night had a 5 minute standing ovation and every performance
was met with the same enthusiaism. (Please see reviews!) There were
several letters to the editor stating how wonderful the production was!
GERSHWIN
AT FOLLY is based upon George's Gershwin's 1934 visit to Charleton,
SC. This new musical loosely chronicles his stay in a quaint Folly Beach
cottage and his summer-long collaboration with Dubose Heyward on what
would become their landmark folk opera, PORGY and BESS.
Such
tunes as "Shall We Dance, Fascinating Rhythm, I Can't Be Bothered
Now, Our Love is Here To Stay, and S'Wonderful,"
are just a few of the memorable musical numbers that are in the score.
It's a don't miss if you are in the area.
Last
December 2002, JERRY'S GIRLS opened at Western Michigan University and
was a huge success ( check reviews). JERRY'S GIRLS also won the Best
in Theatre of 2002 in the Southwest Michigan Area.
